Beauty and Cosmetic Dupes
What the heck is a dupe?
If you shop for cosmetic products online or read any of the popular beauty blogs you’ve most certainly come across the term “beauty dupe”. I know I did and wondered what the heck?
Well, let me tell you, a cosmetic dupe, or makeup dupe, or beauty dupe is a much less expensive copycat or duplicate of a more popular and probably way more expensive product already on the market.
Ok, so why should you care?
Well, I don’t know about you but I hate spending my hard-earned money on a beauty or makeup product and later finding out I can get a similar or sometimes even identical product for far less money.
I am all about saving a dolla ya’ll!
Anyway, back to dupes and where can you find them…
A simple search for makeup dupes on Google will point you to many blogs, articles, and lists for drugstore makeup products that are just as good as a more expensive high-end makeup product sold at an exclusive beauty store. What many people don’t know is that many of the same companies will produce a high-end line of makeup sold at the more exclusive stores, but the same company will also make a less-expensive line sold at drugstores like CVS, Walgreen’s, or Walmart sold under another name. And you can bet that many of the products will be similar, if not exactly the same, in both lines.
So, why pay more when you can pay less? The point is you shouldn’t.
More dupes than just cosmetics? Oh Yeah!
There are also makeup brush dupes, beauty tool dupes such as tweezers, sponges, eyelash curlers. You get the picture.
Has anyone seen some of the prices for designer makeup brushes? I mean, WoW! They are crazy expensive. I love well-made, quality brushes just as much as everyone, but I don’t love the prices. I also love spending time trying new makeup shades and techniques and completely agree that you need quality tools. However, I can’t always afford to drop hundreds of dollars on a set of makeup brushes or even $50-60 on a single one. And quite frankly a LOT of the high-end makeup brushes are NOT worth the high prices being charged. The markup is phenomenal.
This is why I LOVE Dupes!
Why? Because you can often get the same quality products for far, far less money.
Trust me, there are serious savings to be found for makeup brushes and tools, and also cosmetic sponges. Again, check out the dupes and compare.
How to know a good dupe from a bad one?
A dead giveaway is prices that seem too-good-to-be-true. For example, if a website is offering makeup brushes for $ .99 and the wording is written in poor English then you probably want to pass. There’s a reason that the product is dirt cheap… because it’s made as cheaply as possible. This is not a good dupe, it’s a crappy one.
Also, pay attention on some of the sites with third-party sellers… beware of sellers whose spelling and grammar is shoddy and/or whose prices are super cheap. Also, look out for sellers who don’t offer 2-day shipping, this is often a sign that they’re shipping from some far-off country which may take weeks. There are definitely awesome sellers on these sites, we sell on some ourselves. However, there are some bad sellers too, just pay attention to the details.
Ok ladies, that’s it for today. Hope you liked my Dupe post and please do check out our products here at CharmeAlexis for some awesome dupe’ish deals that we offer too!
